Feisty Fawn
I recently installed the newest Ubuntu release Feisty Fawn on my working laptop (IBM R40). I used the Kubuntu cd instead of the Ubuntu, because thats the only cd that I could found in the office. For the first time, I installed full Linux on my laptop without the dualboot thinghy. Its only for project development anyway and I have my Vista desktop already for testing.
The Kubuntu installation was pretty straight forward, no problems or whatsoever…fiiuhh, I guess the Ubuntu guys has done their job really well. All my hardware works properly, including the infrared port. The installation itself last less than an hour, after booting from cd, just follow a few instructions..click..click…, and its done.
Since I’m not really comfortable using the KDE desktop environment, probably because I already got used to using Gnome as my display manager, I rolled back to Gnome by installing an ubuntu-desktop simply by typing sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop. It will run both desktop environment side by side, and we can choose which one we’d like to use each time we’re going to login by using session.
One thing that I like the most on Feisty Fawn is probably the Desktop-effects (3d desktop) that they added on the preferences. It works mostly like Beryl but without the pain in the ass installation. Well done ubuntu! oh btw, here is my ubuntu desktop.
