Vista experience…
I just got a new PC at the office today for the development PC to replace my personal laptop that I always used. The PC that I got came with a Kubuntu OS installation, well.. its not that I dont like using Linux for my development PC, but there’s just way lot of works to do before I actually do some development… especially since I have to work a lot with Windows Media Player web-plugins or Quicktime Player. So I decided to install Windows Vista Business Edition on my PC, my PC specs are:
- 200Gb harddisk
- 1Gb RAM
- Pentium 4, 2.00 GHz
- NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420, 64MB.
The installation was quite fast and I refer to this documentation for installing Vista, incase something shitty happens. Well..I finally got it running with just less than an hour.
Just as I expected, my graphic card is not sufficient enough to use the Windows Aero theme for enabling the glossy look , 3D look or the transparent window border. And I just got vista basic themes which is just a CRAP!! Take a look at the screenshot below, this is the border of Firefox 2 running on Vista.
Even my Windows Media Center 2005 that is running on my Laptop can do better than that! Well, thats it for now..to summarize this post, here are the pros and cons for now..
- Pro: Search function, Explorer, Sidebar (widgets).
- Cons: High system requirements, Firewall (keep asking me the whole time..!!).
